I really like this song and I don't feel like writing a blog entry today.
i can't let you be
cause your beauty won't allow me
wrapped in white sheets
like an angel from a bedtime story
shut out what they say
cause your friends are fucked up anyway
and when they come around
somehow they feel up and you feel down
when we were kids
we hated things our parents did
we listened low
to casey kasem's radio show
that's when friends were nice
to think of them just makes you feel nice
the smell of grass in spring
and october leaves cover everything
have you forgotten how to love yourself?
i can't believe all the good things that you do for me
sat back in a chair
like a princess from a faraway place
nobody's nice
when you're older your heart turns to ice
and shut out what they say
they're too dumb to mean it anyway
when we were kids
we hated things our sisters did
backyard summer pools
and christmases were beautiful
and the sentiment
of coloured mirrored ornaments
and the open drapes
look out on frozen farmhouse landscapes
have you forgotten how to love yourself
This is have you forgotten by red house painters...mark kozelek toads the wet sprocket.

You don't just took up when the next fellow walks by!
I know this is supposed to be the Anti-Fanboy Star Wars blog, which it still is don't worry about that. It's just that there's something troubling going on with the American News Media and I really want to write about it. So roll your eyes if you must, for here comes another bleeding heart rant.
I was reading a transcript from Amy Goodman's Democracy Now show last night. She spoke with an indigenous rights activist and a community organizer in Bemidji with the Red Lake, White Earth and Leech Lake reservations, concerning the recent school shootings in Red Lake Native American reservation in northern minnesota. The first thing that got me thinking about this is how again they are attaching the usual stigmas to the shooter, he dressed in black, he wore make up, he was a loner, he talked about guns and shooting people. He even contributed to a Neo-Nazi website (or so the rumors say), now I'm not arguing this isn't true, I didn't know the kid, but what worries me about this is that by focusing solely on these descriptive points, the aforementioned traits give certain alarmists the right to harass "suspicious children." The same thing happened with the two kids from Columbine, in fact it's almost a word for word recreation of the same info we got about them back in 1999. What I learned from the Democracy Now broadcast was that the young man's father committed suicide back in 1997 and later his mother suffered brain damage after a car accident, during which she was drunk. This is one of those situations where blame is really hard to assess, because who's to say they wouldn't react the same way after such tragic events. Instead all we hear about is what to look for when the next troubled child starts to act out.
Mattie Harper, the indigenous rights activist brought up the most troubling point of the discussion, in that she pointed out President Bush's lack of interest in this matter. If I recall the United States went through a period of national mourning after the Columbine tragedy. You couldn't get away from it, it was all over the national media and we are definitely not seeing that kind of coverage for Red Lake. I don't know what the answer to this is, is it race? or is it because Red Lake is a lower-class Native American reservation and not an affluent, upper-middle class city like Littleton? I don't want to believe its because of race and class, but why hasn't Bush said anything. Why are reporters endlessly prying into the family life of the Schaivo's and giving the Red Lake story a brief 30 second interlude only to talk about how weird the kid was? All these reporters talk about how much suffering Ms. Schaivo is going through and how they don't want to see anyone suffer and die. There is an entire community in Northern Minnesota who are doing just that, only I didn't see anybody camped outside the school last night talking to the parents. If there is one bright spot amidst all this, it's that survivors of the Columbine tragedy flew up to Minnesota to speak with the residents of Red Lake, hopefully they can help and through all the fear and desperation some connection can be made. Why it only happens after bad things happen, Tommy Corn can answer that one. Sorry for the rant, I've had to watch Hannity and Colmes for a media monitoring project, it's starting to get to me I suppose.
On a more positive note, tast night's Clone Wars was my favorite so far, tonight is the end. I can not wait to see General Grevious in his live action debute, if they can distill 10% of his coolness from the cartoon, I'll be set.

it doesn't make you interesting
and never getting help doesn't make you brave
not listening to reason doesn't mean that you have faith
your just cutting off your nose to spite your face"

So look out...Lazlo Panaflex!
Two more clone wars chapters have been unveiled. Chapter 22 began with Anakin in his full on mop-top 70's Luke hair-do ass kicking his way through the clone wars. The most revealing part of this chapter was that we got to see Count Dooku train General Grevious, I love how subtly they have shown throughout this series the Sith gaining more and more power as the Jedi order begins to weaken. The episode ended with Anakin foolishly slaying a creature that was supposed to be used as a particular species rite of passage hunt on whatever planet they were on, I'm not sure which. Obi-Wan was probably very grumpy. Also one thing I forgot to mention, I love the banter between Anakin and Obi-Wan especially during the bug devouring scene, it's nice to get a few moments where we see that the Jedi don't take all of the teachings of the force too seriously. That was something I really loved in Attack of the Clones, the occasional back and forth between Anakin and Obi-Wan, we forget in the midst of all the foreshadowing of Anakin's fate that these two are best friends. That's whats great about Star Wars, its the most economic story telling around, you don't need these drawn out interludes where Obi Wan and lil Ani riff on the nature of their bond, you just place it in there and move on to something else, you get the idea and you don't lose the 30's style serial adventure story telling and pacing.
Chapter 23 showed Mace in top form, not only did he manage to rig a Seperatist fighter ship to obey his commands while he was standing on top of it flying through the streets of Coruscant, he also sliced and diced his way through several other ships only to later team up with Yoda. Yoda had some fine moments as well, casually crashing two gigantisized ships into each other with the simple wave of his hand. If there was ever a spin off I would die for, it would be Mace and Yoda in some kind of buddy comedy where they travel the universe going on daring adventures, making things blow up and cracking some jokes. That would be the ultimate, well maybe someone can convince Lucas. Probably not though.

I remember back when it was 3 years away, while I'm happy its closer, it is kind of sad how time flies.
To end this I will leave you with some of the most brilliant comedic diaogue ever written.
Duff Tour Guide: What does the future hold for us? Heh. Let's just say we have a few ideas up our sleeve.
Homer: Like what?
Guide: Um, I'd rather not get into it right now.
Homer: Why not?
Guide: All right, we don't have any ideas for the future. We got nothing. Happy?
Homer: [whiny] No.

...It's a tap!!!
Clone Wars Chapter 21 premiered last night, quite an introduction to an extraordinary series. This second volume has been described essentially as the opening crawl to Episode III, thus where we leave at the end of these five chapters is exactly where Revenge of the Sith begins. What's even better this time around, is the length of the episodes have been increased from 3 minutes to 12 minutes, a lot of people complained about the length of the earlier cartoons in this series, I actually thought since they were so well executed they came in like a jolt of lightning and as soon as the action maxed out to a peak, it stopped and you had to wait until the next installment. It really fit well wit the episodic nature of the series, and the idea of the cliffhanger serial and what have you, I don't know they just seemed to kick a lot of ass. Last night's was especially interesting because there was a great moment between Anakin and Padme in which we got a great representation of the nature of their relationship. I know this makes me sound like some kind of academic jerk-ass explaining all this stuff in such a way but that's the purpose of the blog isn't it? To make me sound like some kind of gigantic star wars blow-hard. Anyway another key moment was in Anakin's departure from the rank of Padawan to that of Jedi Knight, I thought it was really cool how Yoda snipped away Anakin's little pony tail thing, but he did have his lightsaber awfully close to Anakin's shoulder blade. It most certainly should have chewed through him like a mule eating an apple, but anakin does have the force so... Anyway, great introductory chapter and it can only get better from this point on. What's really cool about all this is that this volume combined with the first will all come out to about 2 hours worth of Clone Wars story telling, which is almost an entire film unto itself, it would be interesting to watch all three prequels with the clone wars shoved in between 2 and 3, anyway that's nerd stuff that I should probably keep to myself. Gettin pumped for tonight, yeah, come on.
"Well, I think Bill's got a point. If you look at the whole life of the planet, we... you know, man, has only been around for a few blinks of an eye. So if the infection wipes us all out, that is a return to normality."
And I really liked Millions despite what Anti-Irish/British Children except Freddie Highmore boy said. You heard me...

Oh Beretta did that shit...
61 days until May 19th, 2005
Two months from this past saturday, it's hard to believe it's only two months away. But anyway.
Tonight's Simpsons was classic mirthmaking, and to all of you who've given up on the show, I say too freakin bad.
Got back from spring break today, an old woman fell on me during the train ride and what also sucks about train travel is on a really crowded train with no seats, people love to stare at helpless passengers journeying through the cars seraching for a vacancy. They love giving you that superior smirk to let you know that they have a seat and you don't, plus its really awkard with luggage in such a small moving space like a train, those people suck. And I'm not casting judgement, I do it too whenever I have a seat.
The Upside of Anger is very funny and an overall well-written movie, while I understand the problems most of the critics have with it, I still liked it. It's worth seeing simply because of Joan Allen (one of the greatest actors alive) and for Kevin Costner who proves that when given the right role and when he's not directing, he's actually talented. Plus anytime a movie is genuinely funny, I give it the benefit of the doubt simply for that matter. Don't get me wrong this was no Pacifier, but so few are these days.
I'll see ya when I see ya.
Less than two months away...jesus
A little love letter to the city...
"Fuck this whole city and everyone in it. From the row houses of Astoria to the penthouses on Park Avenue. From the projects in the Bronx to the lofts in Soho. From the tenements in Alphabet City to the brownstones in Park slope to the split levels in Staten Island. Let an earthquake crumble it. Let the fires rage. Let it burn to fuckin ash then let the waters rise and submerge this whole, rat-infested place."

Something else I was listening to today, thought I'd mention it.
"And I watched the debates, 'till I can't see straight. Take a portion away and both sides seem just the same. Not sure why I vote, since I don't know what difference it makes. It seems to me we get the same shit from them both, reform to work I say it's time we try revolt, but I don't got the guts to jump up and go first, so I'll just shout until my throat hurts.
And I curse, and I curse what we fucked up in Iraq, you say support the troops I do, I want them all brought back. And every building that you bombed raised from the ground and pull your contractors the fuck out.
And if you really go and re-instate the draft you're straight-away to split the country straight in half so try arresting everyone who sends their drafts cards back, I'll be returning mine in no time flat."
And one more thing....
JASON GOES TO HELL...
JASON GOES TO HELL....
JASON GOES TO HELL....IN 3-D!!!!!!!

Walter, just stand outside so Chief can translate my Iraqi ass map... okay?
Reading online today that George Lucas plans to re-release the original Star Wars trilogy (and I guess the prequels) in 3-D for the 30th anniversary in 2007. Man, oh man oh chevitz...this is incroyable, I must say. Now I will admit that I was once hesitant about 3-D because it just always struck me as a gimmick, something you can enjoy for about 15 minutes (like the Muppets Movie at Disneyworld, or Honey I Squirted Goo on the Audience), then it just becomes hey let's see how much crap we can heave at the audience. I guess the key is to make a 3-D movie without trying to make a 3-D movie, like the Polar Express for example which was one of the most thrilling visual experiences of my life. Not to mention that 3-D technology has improved almost ten-fold since the days of even Spy Kids 3-D, especially with the integration of IMAX screens. I really hope this happens, just thinking about gives me chills, plus I'll have something to look forward to once Episode III comes out and the Post-Star Wars slump sets in, maybe this means it will never go away.
More Episode III tidbits for ya, I was reading online today that Lucas made a statement at the ShoWest presentation ceremony calling Episode III "Titanic in space." For those of you who know me, you might think this would enrage me, actually it's gotten me even more excited for if you read my reaction to the trailer, I had freaking tears in my eyes then, this is exactly what I want. A big epic tragedy wrapped up in Star Wars ass kicking, I need to stop reading this stuff, I'm gettin over-stimulated. The article is up on yahoo.com, Lucas even called the film a tear-jerker, that will piss off some of those heartless fan boys, me like much much.
Minor things, watched Three Kings again this morning, I was in a David O. Russell mood, really great film. One of the best anti-war films ever made, and it's also one of those movies where the more you watch it, the more you get out of it. You realize how intelligent a writer David O. Russell is, and how much research went into this depiction of Gulf War Part I. One of the other things I love about it is that it investigates all sides of the conflict, from the refugees, to Saddam's troops, the Iraqi characters in this film are not just stereotypical villians, they are like everybody else. Listening to Eddie Murphy and driving Infinity Convertibles, savaged by United States economic and cultural globalization. The funny thing is, this film is probably more important now than when it was released back in 1999, good thing they got it out then though because it probably would have been canned by any studio today. Russell is a truly original filmmaker, and after this, Flirting With Disaster, and I Heart Huckabees, definitely one of my favorites. Let's hope he doesn't take 5 more years to make another movie, in the meantime, I will watch Spanking the Monkey...you heard me.
Also, Pearl Jam's coming back soon, with their album, Ben Folds, Eels, and Kevin Devine, and countless others I'm sure, my ears will be every happy this spring.
Here's a bloopy for ya...
"Three thousand years of beautiful tradition, from Moses to Sandy Koufax... you're goddamn right I'm living in the fucking past!"

What? No. We can't stop here. This is bat country.
I watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas last night, I know that makes me a Hunter S. Thompson bandwagon jumper, but at the same time I saw the movie in theatres back in 1998 and I haven't watced it since. So in the words of Raphael...
gimme a break.
Watching it made me really happy because the characterization of Hunter S. Thompson that Johnny Depp performs was one that became an adopted personality of a good friend of mine back in high school. For privacy's sake let's call him Dean R.
No, wait, that's too obvious, D. Register. Anyway D.A. (as he liked to be called) was so tickled by this film that his speech patterns and mannerisms began to mimic that of Raoul Duke in the film, which I guess is Hunter S. Thompson. Anyway the pont of all this is, it made me think of D.A. and what a kind, funny, and thoroughly entertaining friend he was. Plus anytime a movie touches someone the way it touched him always makes me smile. I hope D.A.'s okay now, I wish him the best and hopefully we'll meet again someday. It's a good movie too, especially since it features an amazing cameo performance by King Busey himself. Plus Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro are spectacular as usual.
Two television items that begin soon...
Project Greenlight, the only reality show that works and isnt' "bad for your soul." Granted, the show is always ten times better than the movie it produces but still, it is consistently entertaining. That starts tonight on Bravo at 9pm but this will probably be the last season of it, so check it out if you have the chance.
And starting next monday, the thrilling Second Volume of the Clone Wars series on Cartoon Network. Not to be outdone, the First Volume comes out on DVD next tuesday as well. If you are interested and haven't seen the series yet, borrow it from me when I get them and watch it, please, I'm begging you. If you've ever wanted to see Mace Windu dispatch an entire Battle Droid army SANS lightsaber, this is probably the only place you will ever have the chance. And I imagine there's a lot of you out there. I'll do a more thorough write up of the two volumes when I get to watch them next week. Until then, keep watching the skis...I mean skies.

This is probably over-doing it a bit, but if you read my ROTS trailer reaction, that is to be expected.
D.A. made me think of this, even though we were never in prison together, you get the idea.
"I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend."
p.s. the incredibles came out on DVD today and since I'm shamelessly plugging several other products, why stop now? And while the incredibles is amazing, please do yourself a favor and watch Brad Bird's first film The Iron Giant. Actually now that I think about it, the people reading this blog have probably already seen it. But if by some sick twist of fate you haven't seen it, please do because you might even say it's Iraqi. I mean, incredible.

Feast on my shorts, stupid father man!
Whaddup,
Just wanted to let you all know that you can now watch the Revenge of the Sith trailer for free at Starwars.com. Definitely check it out, if you got an interest. Saw Jorge on 60 Minutes last night, cool shit, I'd like that see that new facility he's building in San Francisco, you may not like his work but you have to admit, he picked a great place to live. Not much else to report, other than there's a great review of the starwars trailer at the Empire Magazine online website, www.empireonline.co.uk. They are huge star wars fans, and they definitely love the prequels, only go there if you want unabashed love, but that may only be me. Also there is some poll they are conducting asking fans about their favorite star wars moments, I haven't done it yet, but you will. You will be, I should say....You will be.
67 days until May 19th 2005.
And remember...
" Wars not make one great."

How many gazebos do you she-males need?
I guess I overdid it on the last post about the ROTS trailer, but hey, I wanted to give you all my gut reaction and that was it. That was exactly how I felt, no filter, no hiding my stupid geek reaction to it all. I wanted the triple truth ruth. I was thinking about it some more and after watching it two more times, once on the big screen (i'll get to that later), I was thinking about how I felt after the episodes I and II trailers. Granted those were great, and I love both of those movies (Jake Lloyd aside) but this one, episode III, hit me on an emotional level that I feel is the core of these great movies. Yes all of the space fights and samurai lightsaber moves are amazing, but what keeps me coming back to sit down and watch over and over again is the story of the family. Watching this Skywalker clan tear itself apart only to be triumphantly re-united and ultimately re-deemed, is perhaps the reason why my two favorite scenes are when Vader reveals himself to Luke at the end of empire (obvious choice) and then when he reveals himself again only to thank Luke for saving his life and to "tell your sister...you were right, you were right about me." One of my favorite lines in the entire trilogy. That is the core of what makes this entire saga my personal favorite story ever put on film, and I feel that Episode III directly taps into those feelings only now it's the desctructive side of the skywalker family. So speaking of the big screen, i went to see the trailer with Robots last night, it's not the first time I've done that, hell I went to see Wing Commander for the Episode I trailer, if you don't remember wing commander, you need to look it up right now, immediately, stop reading and go rent it. Robots was okay, it didn't reach the depths of Be Cool bad, it looked nice and some of the visual humor was entertaining. There's just something about all non-pixar 3-D animated movies that feels so hollow and forced. I know it's unfair to compare everything to Pixar, but at the same time, they set the standard so high and you'd figure these other companies would be fired up to try and top that, but I guess not. Also, as one of my friends asked, "so they wiped out all the humans and created this utopian robot society like in the matrix?" The more I think about it, this really was just a sequel to the matrix, except the robots won.

you were the chosen one!
Okay, I need a few minutes to collect myself. Oh my god, just watched the Revenge of the Sith trailer on Fox after that god-awful show O.C., hey liz why do you watch this shit? Anyway, oh my god, now is the time for me to reveal the purpose of this blog, this is a countdown blog for Episode III, well at least a way for me to counteract all the stupid ass fan boys like those jackasses at Aint It Cool News.com because I am sick and tired of hearing about how Lucas has lost it, and how the prequels will never live up to some imaginary experiences these idiots claim they had as children. We all know, if the original trilogy came out now, those people would have the same complaints about it, unless of course Peter Jackson directed because anything he touches turns to gold.
Anyway, the trailer, this is going to sounds ridiculous, but I had tears in my eyes at the end of it, Anakin, Obi-Wan watching that relationship go to shit is going to be one of the most excruciating film experiences of my life. And that line about the jedi being considered the enemies of the republic, sweet zombie jesus! And mace walking in to arrest Palpatine. I can't handle this, I need this movie, I need it, this is it, and bless you Lucas for giving us what will surely be THE defining star wars movie, that's right I said it. Please do yourself a favor and watch the trailer, I'm not asking for everyone to love this movie, but i hope we win back some fans who were turned off by the first two. To them I say I only hope that this movie puts the other two in perspective, then again, what if episode III doesn't live up to my own expectations? I hope not even my worst enemy would wish that upon me, but I'm not going to worry about it. Hell, I wish that everyone star wars or not, had something like this to look forward to, it's a great feeling. God, I love star wars.

I know what you're thinking...
This is quite possibly THE most un-original thing, I've ever done. I know what you're thinking, great, another blog. But it's okay because I'm thinking the exact same thing, therefore I've got the upper hand. Anyway, I'll have you all know this blog was created out of sheer anger and contempt (I'll explain more about this in the next post), but it will be posted to spread love. I've got a lot of stuff to do now, so as the days come and go, this blog will reveal more and more of itself to you. I leave you right now with the beginning of the countdown...
72 days, until May 19th, 2005.
Oh yeah, one more thing, this blog will cease to exist after said date. So enjoy it suckas.
